The first point to remember is that the aim of the Christian life is neither Word nor Spirit.  The aim of the Christian life was declared by Jesus: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and mind and strength ... and ... Love your neighbour as yourself.”

One of the great challenges of the Christian life is not to allow the means to become the end.

Both Word and Spirit are vital means for seeking God and living the life he has for us.  Neither are the end in of themselves.

The path of the Word and the Path of the Spirit are both classic routes to attain to the Love of God.

The way of the Spirit emphasises the sense of the presence of God and seeing the Lord work in miraculous ways.  The way of the Word leads through obedience to the gaining of wisdom, and the pleasing of God.
